Facebook is a great people connector in a way that you can search for people you know on the site and send a friend request to them.

And 'though some of us Facebook users, logs in and spend time on Facebook everyday, some people are just too busy to check on their accounts, or they're not just into Facebook that much. And adds to it that if these people you sent friend requests are new to using Facebook, they might still be finding their way around the site before they would notice a "friend request" alert.

But if the case is that you and some of your Facebook friends sent a friend request to a user, and you had read on the homepage: "Alice Whatever" "Hedi L." and so on are now friends with "That" ( or the same person you sent friend invite) this only means that the person already accepted your friends friend request.

But how come you aren't friends with her/him yet? This could be a heads up! A way the person choose for your friend request to just "sit there" on the request list instead of ignoring it.

If you got the feeling that it is time to cancel the friend invite for whatever reason, here's an easy to follow "how to" tutorial on how to delete the awaiting friend request you sent on Facebook.

How to Cancel a Pending Friend Request on Facebook

It's your worst nightmare. You've sent a Facebook friend request to someone from your past- maybe an ex lover or a long lost friend- that you realize afterwards, you really don't want to hear from. What to do? Follow these tips to make that pending friend request nothing more than a bad memory!
Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer with internet access
  • Facebook account
  • A clear mind

  1. 1
Log on to your account at www.facebook.com

  2. 2
Do a search for the name of the person you inadvertently Friend Requested by typing their name in the Search box.

  3. 3
If your friend request is still pending, it should say Awaiting Friend Confirmation under their name on their profile page. Or, if their profile page is private, it will say Friend Requested next to their name on the main search page

  4. 4
Unfortunately, Facebook does not have a button to cancel a friend request-- but there is a way around it! Go to Settings at the top of your homepage.

  5. 5
    Click on Privacy Settings.

  6. 6
Click on Manage under the Privacy tab.

  7. 7
At the bottom, find the Block People option.

  8. 8
Type in the name of the person that you do not want to be friends with.

  9. 9
Click "Block". The person is now blocked from your account.

  10. 10
Now go back and type their name in the box again to unblock them.

  11. 11
The pending friend request will disappear from their profile page and they will never know that you temporarily "blocked" them.

  12. 12
Also, you can opt to keep the person blocked from your account permanently by omitting the Unblock step. They will have no access to your profile and no option to ever send you a friend request!

  13. 13
    Whew! Disaster averted!

See Facebook Updates Using Facebook Notifier Chrome Extesion

If you regularly use Google Chrome and you can’t spend a moment without your Facebook updates then today i have come up with something interesting i.e a chrome extension exclusively for getting your facebook updates at regular intervals on your browser and that too in a stylish way.
The extension is called Facebook Notification Checker/Updater. Whenever your Facebook account receives a update this wonderful extension notifies you of the update via a cool small icon next to the address bar, so that you never miss an update on your facebook account while working on other sites. The extension was released on Nov 13, 2009 by Owen Campbell-Moore and has already been downloaded more than 5000 times ! !
fbchecker
All you have to do is, download and install the extension (For that you should know how to install extensions in chrome, which i will cover in upcoming posts). Once installed you will notice an icon next to your address bar as seen in the above image. Click on the icon and add your Facebook account details, once logged in you will get periodical updates from your Facebook account. The best thing about this little nifty extension is that it eradicates the facebook login problems i.e you need not to login to your facebook account each time in order to check the updates. So, it’s a great time saver for facebook addicts.
To download the Google Chrome extension, follow the link and download from the official page of its creators Facebook Notification Checker/Updater.
P.S :- This is a simple application based upon what i have observed till now and it is currently in development stage so it may contain some glitches here and there. Please share with us your experiences.

Facebook login

facebookFacebook is currently probably the most popular social networking website on the Internet. With a user base growth of 50 million in the last three months it is without doubt now ranking at the top with its 300 million users. Facebook login problems are as common as those on other websites. This does not only fall into the forgotten username or password category but also phishing problems which every major web service has to cope with.
The standard Facebook login page is available directly at the Facebook homepage. There users can register or log into their Facebook account. A mobile page is available as well as a Facebook lite website. The former for mobile users the latter for users with slow Internet connections.
facebook login
A forgot your password link is available on all three pages in case the password cannot be remembered correctly. The Facebook login username is usually the email address that was used in the Facebook signup. Facebook users who want to get rid of all the problems related to logging into Facebook including forgotten passwords or phishing threats should use a password manager like Last Pass, which is available for Firefox, Internet Explorer and Google Chrome, for their Facebook login. This password manager remembers the username and password, will automatically fill them into the forms at the Facebook homepage and even perform the Facebook login automatically.
Facebook users who are experiencing other problems that are related to the login page or screen might want to try clearing their web browser cache. Another possibility is to use a different web browser if one is available to see if the login problem exists on that web browser as well which would suggest that it is not a browser setting that is responsible for the Facebook login problems the user experiences.
Facebook Login Tips
  • Never follow links to visit the Facebook login page, always enter the url directly in your web browser to go there.
  • Always check the website before you start entering your log in information
  • Use a password manager like Last Pass to aid in the login process
  • Select a secure password with at least eight digits and a number
  • Do not hand out your username or password to anyone
  • Change your password the second you suspect the account could be compromised

Annoying Facebook Login Error….

With over 300 million users, Facebook is the world’s largest social network. With the passage of every day the number of facebook users is increasing. And with this increase there is also an increase in the different type of problems, errors faced by its users.
facebookloginerror
The most common problem (lately) being :
  • Inability to login to your (facebook) account.
  • Bad Request. Your browser sent a request that this server could not understand.
  • Size of a request header field exceeds server limit.
  • After (Or before) logging in the page is displayed in just plain html (all in a line).
All the above mentioned errors are being faced by the users of facebook lately. This being said, there is nothing we can actually do to overcome these errors (as the problem is generally from server side). However there is nothing wrong in trying out different ways to resolve this error; be able to login to your facebook account or atleast get to the facebook login page !!

I am suggesting some methods using which you might be able to login to your account and do all the necessary updates :

Basic Steps

Complicated Steps

  • Clear your browsers cache and then try logging in.
  • Change your ip address (Works for those who have dynamic ip address).
If any of the above mentioned remidies work, then hooray !!!!
Else just wait for some official confirmation from Facebook or wait for an hour or so.
If you have some other workaround to get rid of login errors, then do share those with us and we will add them to this post !!!!

Orkut Now Comes To facebook

Yes you read it correct, With the help of a new application you will now be able to access your Orkut profile in your facebook account itself. This application brings you your very own Orkut profile to your Facebook account! You dont have to provide any login or password. All you specify is your Orkut Profile URL!
You just have to add the orkut application to your facebook profile and provide your orkut profile id and then this application will let you share your Orkut Profile, Photos, Scraps with your Facebook friends.
facebook orkut
P.S :- This application was not developed by Facebook. The application is currently in development stage so you may find some bugs/errors here and there. I used the application myself and i was a bit disappointed (lots of ads, bugs) but you can give it a try if you use both Orkut and Facebook. Here is a link to the application.

Twitter And Facebook, Now On Xbox 360

On Monday Microsoft announced that its Xbox 360 game console will also have Twitter and Facebook interfaces. That means while playing your favourite games you will be able to tweet and update your status on both Facebook and Twitter. As the Xbox UK site states this feature is coming soon (Autumn 2009).
I think by launching this service Microsoft is re-inventing the couch potato phenomenon. Because now socializing will become easy for those people also who do hardcore gaming while resting on their comfortable couch seats. Yes this is a reflection of how our daily lives are influenced by social media and that too online.
Xbox social media
I already feel this new feature to be a hit but looking at the cost it may be a bit heavy on your pocket. Since an Xbox Live Gold subscription will be required to use either service after the expiry of the free trial. A Gold subscription costs $50 per year which includes online play, Netflix streaming, etc.
I am waiting for the time when this new feature will hit the Xbox 360 systems and what will be its effect on social media. If you have any comments on this new feature please be kind to share with us. Here is the link to the official Xbox UK website
